A gaming service that aims to kill off the traditional gaming console will begin streaming popular games over the internet in June this year!

Is it plausable? You be the judge.

I'm fairly confident this will not affect the game console market in any shape or form.

"OnLive relies on video compression technology, which instantly streams video via the internet so if feels like the game is playing locally."

Streaming gaming. No thanks. Streaming video is shite enough as it is.

OnLive has been in development for eight years? And nobody realised how awful a name that is. Eight years is a lot of time. Crawl before you can walk, dudes. I would suggest making video streaming more popular but America with their Hulus and Netflixes seem pretty keen on the idea of your digital data not even being yours.

Intrigued, though. Mass Effect 2 streamed? Goodbye Miniclip!

Seems a bit of a silly idea as low tech games can easily run on today systems while high end ones will struggle to be streamed with current internet connections.

There's a competing service coming out too with an even sillier name: GaiKai.

It's backed by Dave Perry, there's a good video or two about it on YouTube/Vimeo. Here's a couple of links:

They reckon these service will work on a 2Mbps connection, but all their tests seem to be on servers no less than 60 miles away. So it could work, but needs a very good infrastructure.
