New DVD re-releases vs. their original counterparts

Many anime series are now being re-released on DVD, mainly because the original publisher went bankrupt or stopped releasing anime (e.g. ADV, Beez). This thread is a discussion about:
Comparing the different releases of the series

Well, the Hellsing re-release was authored by Madman rather than re-using the old ADV UK masters. Both were based on the US Geneon disc so the menus were the same, but the new version had Madman ads rather than ADV ones.

Elfen Lied, on the other hand, apparently has identical disc content to the original ADV release.
 
This seems like a tricky topic, because unless you already know a series you like has an improved DvD version, your unlikely to repurchase.
