You know for a second I thought you were implying they had started charging for trailers

It's one of those fiddly anime titles. If only it could have been called Bishounen Swim Team or something like that. An anime with that title would be more popular than Miracle Train!!!

Well I was hardly likely to pa...

Ah, I see I wasn't the only one who wanted to go there. ^^;

Anyway, this looks like an energetic and youthful series brimming with potential for stories about friendship and competitive sports.

I came into this article expecting to be able to say something like "I should fecking hope they don't charge for trailers".

I know that there's been a fair bit of controversy about this show due to...shock, horror! It not being about cute girls doing cute things. But srsly, girls need eye candy too.

I have to say though, those character models look weird. Are their shoulders too broad, or are their heads too small?

There's such a thing as shoulders being too broad in character designs aimed at girls?

I am looking forward to seeing the boys discovering the power of swimming and friendship together. Crunchyroll had better bally well pick this up after stirring up their customers with that joke survey before the anime was announced.

I swear you was all over the prospect of this show in chat

Also clever wording on the title Gen, got me as well..

Based on the thumbnail for that second video, I don't think the shoulders are excessive as such, but they are wider than average and they do look overly broad compared with the character's neck.

Have the years of cute schoolgirl escapades completely erased the memory of the wide-shouldered men favoured in classic CLAMP shows?! And does nobody read BL?

This year rules. FREE! then KuroBas s2. Even if the power of swimming and friendship is less fabulous than expected, I'm still going to end up happy.

I thought BL and all that stuff favoured the excessively feminine man? Also, it's not just shows aimed girls that go for the broad look, I remember watching Ninja Scroll a little while ago and being struck at how impossibly broad the men were, you could build homes on those shoulders.

I'm going to have egg on my face if I have to create a spin-off thread about men with broad shoulders at some point, aren't I?

I don't personally consider any of the men in the BL I read to be feminine. There's certainly stuff out there with submissive characters who are so cute they could be female self-insertion placeholders (I don't understand this!), but the lanky, big-handed type of guy is really popular.

When I think of wide-shouldered anime/manga characters, Rin (in the second thumbnail) has a long way to go before he reaches this level:

Damn those lanky big handed bastards. Is there no end to their luck!

And he has quite some way to go before he reaches this freakish level of masculinity:
