If anyone ever doubts that anime and manga isn't mainstream over here, send them over to that Garnier "Manga Head" site :) I'm sure the cosplayers can have some good fun with this competition!

It's nice to see Manga UK cranking it up a gear. Maybe we'll finally see some new releases and some back catalogue releases (FOTNS movie, Wicked/Monster City anyone?)

er, it isnt mainstream. Probably will never be.

The hair gel tells a different story ;) Seriously, I think the average British person at least knows what Japanese animation is (though obviously, perceptions tend to be that it's either violent porn or ugly kids stuff!)

I know for a fact that Manga UK is getting a lot more active and is looking out for new stuff to license. From speaking with them, they come across as very enthusiastic and excited people, so I would certainly keep an eye on them over the coming months.

Wow, manga are actually doing something other than putting adverts in magazines. It's slightly unfair really that they release a whole load of rubbish and then licence the best selling series out in the UK currently.

From what Paul said above, though, it seems like Manga is fiannly getting their act together. I wonder what they'll licence with so many series already taken by MVM and BEEZ.

I'd hardly say that makes it mainstream. I'm sure most people think they know what DNA is, but that doesn't mean biochemistry is "mainstream".

Slightly off topic, but I just heard a rumour that has left me mortified!

It seems Manga has lost the rights to the FOTNS movie (I don't know if they've lost the rights or how it all works but anyway...).

I was just wondering could (hopefully) disprove this coz it's my favourite anime EVER (Alongside Eva)

Speaking about re-releasing DVDs, I demand that someone releases Wings of Honneamise on DVD - how it hasn't been thus far, god only knows.

We can argue about "perception" all day, but I'm sure we can agree that it's a good sign that these "mainstream companies" are taking an interest though, yes? It's very 'Hollyoaks' ;)

I actually think the manga boom has a lot to do with this. Since last year, it's slowly been growing in the UK and now with Tokyopop UK and Viz (via their new sub-license) pumping novels out by the bucket load, manga culture is fast expanding.

As I said before, just sit tight and wait for Manga UK to make their announcements. From speaking them with, we should expect some good announcements over the coming months. And you know, Manga is a big company, so I'm expecting some real A-class stuff :)

I would love to see a lot of their older stuff remastered and rereleased too. And although they appear to have lost a lot of the licenses for those classics like Honneamise, I wouldn't rule anything out until we see where they are heading over the summer.

I guess Animazing could pick up Honneamise like they have done with Dominion - that would make the most sense.
i sincerely hope someone picks up the rights to Honnaemise, i really do. Kiseki have the rights to Gunbuster at the moment, but it's crying out for a remastering and rerelease.

Kiseki always had the UK rights to Gunbuster, as well as Macross II and a couple of other titles Manga had the US rights for, so if it does get a rerelease it will most likley be by an american company who licence the Renewal set that was released in Japan last year. Hopefully it will also have the science lessons and the other extra's too
