Mentioned earlier in the year, but now officially announced.

In This Corner of the World is one of the most popular and well-received anime films of 2016, and that film is now available to own on Blu-ray & DVD from distributor Manga Animatsu. But director Sunao Katabuchi revealed something else – he stated earlier in the year that he wanted to plan an extended version of the film but production had not started at the time.

Today it has been revealed that plans for the extended version are now official. The producer Taro Maki has confirmed that production is under-way but the staff have not yet revealed a release window for the time being so it will be quite sometime before we hear any more news. Both the director, producer and a couple voice actors attended a stage greeting during the Tokyo screening for In This Corner of the World on November 12th to celebrate the film’s one-year anniversary since it’s Japanese theatrical release.

The run-time for the original theatrical & home video release is 128 minutes.

In This Corner of the World follows a young lady named Suzu Urano, who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure in Hiroshima to live with her husband’s family. Suzu’s life is thrown into chaos when her town is bombed during World War II. Her perseverance and courage underpin this heart-warming and inspirational tale of the everyday challenges faced by the Japanese in the midst of a violent, war-torn country. This beautiful yet poignant tale shows that even in the face of adversity and loss, people can come together and rebuild their lives.

In This Corner of the World is available as a limited collector’s edition Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray & DVD combo pack, and standard DVD from distributor Manga Animatsu for the UK & Ireland.
