Final Fantasy: Dissidia

Looks like there is another Final Fantasy spin-off coming our way. This time its a fighting game. At the moment the only confrimed characters are Zidane from FF9, Squall from FF8, main character from FF1 (called in this Warrior of Light) and a character from FF2. Un-confrimed characters are Sephirioth from FF7 and Tidus from FF10.

At the moment its set for a psp only release

It could work. It might be a good gameplay adaptation of the "fighting porn" seen in Advent Children and FFXIII. I don't know if I'll buy it, though, I haven't used my PSP in over a year, and this'll need to be extremely good to convince me.

I sense tension coming into this thread very soon....

Also lol @ Sephiroth not confirmed yet, obviously he's going to be in it and so is Tidus, needs more Terra/Locke though and Kefka too, if Kefka's not going to be in it I'm going to rant like this...

Also, here's the scan.

Is this plot-oriented or just a fighting game? I hope the latter - we don't need a screwed up plot to see Squall fight Quina. This game is clearly about fan service (there's more than one type), and it shouldn't try to make itself more serious than it should be.

As do I, unless it's trying to rival Super Smash Bros, which is just not going to happen.

Surely it would benefilt from being released on at least one next gen console.
Hopefully ported onto PS2 if it's good, though I don't like the sound of the controls, TWO ATTACK BUTTONS!? Though it's funny how you can run up the walls.

Is this goning to be like ssb at all?
I hope not. =/

@ Kupoartist's post: Yeah, pretty much knew you were gonna say something like that, don't blame you either.

I think this game looks cool, and I'm looking forward to it.

Of course, some people will decide to freak out about "more Final Fantasy" and will act as though the sky is falling and will brand it a cheap spin off and will have various other vitriolic, entirely moronic sentiments on the game they've yet to play; but I'm sure Dissidia will be fun and will entertain those it aims to entertain :]

FFIX seems to be the most popular instalment amongst anime fans, or at least seems to have more anime-lovers as fans than the others. It's interesting.

Nah, I'm pretty sure FFVII and X are most popular among anime fans. There's always bajillions of FFVII and FFX cosplayers, but I seldom FFIX cosplayers, no?

As for FFIX, I own it, but I've yet to play it :[

Go play it now! >:D

Well, I was waiting until I finished FFVI to play it (so I could get all the references in FFIX - there are FFVI references in IX, right?) but I got distracted by animes and mangas halfway through FFVI, and I can't seem to get back into gaming :[

Not really most refrences come from 1-2 and 4 might be 3 as well but i never played the original.

As Dissidia was playable at Jump Festa recently, many attendees got an eyeful of some of the characters that'll be playable when the game's finally released. So far these are the people you can expect to see in the retail version, with more to follow as it draws closer to release. Cloud better be in the line-up, seeing as Sephiroth's up there as a playable.

The Warrior of Light, Garland (FFI)
Firion, Emperor Palamecia (FFII)
Sephiroth (FFVII)
Squall, Ultimecia (FFVIII)
Zidane, Kuja (FFIX)
Tidus (FFX)
