Channel 4 have kick started the voting for their '<a href="http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/G/greatest/cartoons/vote.html">Top 100 Greatest Cartoons</a>' TV show, with even a few famous anime earning nominations - amongst which include Akira, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and bizarrely, the infamous hentai Legend of the Overfiend.

So how about the UK anime community make their votes count? You don't have to register or anything and provided the likes of Akira receive enough votes, this is just more vital exposure for anime in the UK. Let’s not accept the likes of ‘Rugrats’ edging above Princess Mononoke!

I suggested Ghost in the Shell, Evangelion and Visions of Escaflowne. Probably kinda futile, but judging by the wide range of rubbish cartoons on there, they need some stuff with at least a shred of credability. Nice to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made the cut :)

I voted for all the anime there, as well as some of the more obvious ones (including the clear cut winner...The Simpsons!). And I suggested NGE, DBZ (it should be up there already), Trigun, Cowboy Bebop & Ghost in the Shell.

This seems like a good chance for anime to get a new face in the UK; through nominees like Akira & Princess Mononoke. I feel a bit angry at them for adding Legend of the Overfiend; C4 have clearly only added it to be "cutting-edge" and controversial, rather than for any elements of quality it might hold (does it have any merits?!).
