Blade of the Immortal

Checked out volume #1 of this at a comic shop over the weekend. The premise sounds awesome, it features some seriously cool violence and I was loving the art style.

Before I jump in and start buying volumes though, has the series been released in it's entirety? I don't want to make the same mistake as I did with Monster, buying the first two volumes only to find several of the later volumes are out of print.

Cheers

The manga is still being released in Japan, though we're sufficiently caught up that the releases come out extremely slowly.

I'm not aware of any problems with Dark Horse keeping this in print, even though it's been on ongoing release for such a long time. Nothing's missing from the series so far. I'd say go for it, but then I'm a huge fan of the series myself :)

Gosh, I remember buying the original comic release years ago when I still lived at home. It feels as though Manji and Rin have been part of my life for longer than most of my actual friends.

Dark Horse currently lists 24 volumes.

According to Wikipedia the fifth (and last arc) called Winter War starts with volume 22 (Footsteps) but it is not known how long the arc will last although Wikipedia lists 27 volumes in Japanese.

Here they are at amazon.co.uk.

I'm currently around the mid teens in volume count. A very good manga that I need to catch up with.

Guys thanks very much for the info, I had no idea this series was still ongoing. There seem to be plenty of copies still available on Amazon and ebay. I need to have a think if I want to invest in a series which isn't yet complete though. I'd hate to get 90% of the way through only for something to happen before all the volumes were released. Dark Horse are one of the bigger companies publishing Manga though so it should be OK....

Alas there is no 100% guarantee that any publisher will release a title to it's conclusion if it's not selling enough. Dark Horse has dropped series partway through as have pretty much every other company. BOTI is a high profile and acclaimed series for DH so I think on this occasion it's probably about as safe a bet as you can get. I know were you're coming from though it's an absolute kicker if a series you're into gets left hanging...

Hi Christor,

Thanks for your post. I think I'm going to look into another complete series for now and see what happens to this one before I start collecting it. Does look good though!

The anime is pretty solid too, I think it's underrated. It doesn't cover much of the series (it can't as it's only 13 episodes and the manga's been running 20+ years) but it's a good introduction and made me want to check out the manga!
