New UK TV channel to show anime?

Sounds great! Been waiting for an announcement like this for quite a while. Now it's up to our Italian cousins to do us a favour

    Favourite Miyazaki or Ghibli Film

I voted other because Castle of Cagliostro isn't on the list :P It was my first experience with Miyazaki and probably my fondest memory. Every time I've watched a Ghibli film since I've had much higher expectations. Of course they're always able to match (or exceed) them, but it's Lupin that...

    So whats your desktop?

If you have a microsoft keyboard try pressing the F Lock. Any keyboard with secondary functions should have a button to toggle between the regular layout and the special functions, but this will render some keys useless. EDIT: If it's done it correctly the mouse pointer should flicker for a...

    The Slayers!

I've only seen the OVA's so maybe I'm not getting the complete picture, but I was somewhat underwhelmed by Slayers. Good fun but not something I'd go out of my way to watch. IMHO El Hazard and Dragon Half do the same thing better. But don't let my cynicsm get in the way of your...

    Robin Williams: The anime fan?

The man has impeccable taste, even if he does make too much overly sentimental crud like Patch Adams.

Monday 7th March UK anime chart

Good point. Unless Naruto finds a whole new audience I think the same will happen to that show.

    Why would you pirate anime?

Really, with the UK market thriving like never before and US imports readily available, I don't see the need for fansubs. Personally I'd download a fansub if and only if I was 100% sure it wasn't going to be released in English, for reasons already stated here.

Street fighter II or Street Fighter Alpha

Street Fighter II is far and away the better of the two. They both feature simplistic stories and threadbare characters but the excellent fight scenes in SFII are amongst the best anime has to offer. They really do make Alpha look ordinary by comparison. Fatal Fury 2 is a better alternative to...

C4's "100 greatest cartoons" this Sunday

I didn't say it was surprising, I said their nominations were based on popularity rather than critical acclaim. And Laputa has been shown on UK TV, which would put it on an equal footing with the likes of Huckleberry Hound :P

C4's "100 greatest cartoons" this Sunday

The nominations were clearly based around sales figures more than anything else - how else you explain Princess Mononoke's inclusion over the likes of Laputa or My Neighbour Totoro? That's why Urotsukidoji is in there. But really, it's difficult to complain when anime is getting such good...

C4's "100 greatest cartoons" this Sunday

The RT article is treasure trove of interesting facts...for instance, did you know that Akira was based on a comic? And Spirited Away was the first anime to be nominated and win an oscar?
