The free channels make money mainly through TV advertising (except for a few like "propeller TV" as that's a non-profit thing). The more people watching, then the more the advertiser pays. As mentioned elsewhere, some money can also be made with TXT things, competitions, merchandise, etc...
Hi. Chances are if it's an old dish (from the old analogue Sky days), it may not have the larger frequency range required nowadays. Plus the dish would be pointing in the wrong place. So you may need a new dish.

As mentioned elsewhere; just to confirm since it's launched - this is currently a free-to-air satellite channel (freesat). There are many other freesat channels such as Zone Horror, Sky News, Scuzz, BBC3, Film4 etc.
It is not a "Sky" channel. You do not need to subscribe to "Sky"...
