Retro Mecha Podcast - Episode 14 'Tekkaman - The Space Knight'

I have a new printer/scanner, but haven't had the time to set it up. Oddly the book seems to be reasonably hard to find. The listing on Mandarake gives a few sample pages. Think a fair bit of the material is duplicated in the Character Works illustration collection. A lot of oddities in Mega...

Recently bought Hatchie's EP and new LP. Some great Dream Pop/Shoegaze stuff. Hatchie is the solo project of little known Brisbane band Babaganoüj's bassist Harriette Pillbeam. Hatchie seems to far more of a success, so I suspect she'll leave the band eventually.

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water simulwatch

I think it is Gunbuster. I really can't remember an other anime prior to that which does that in that style. It's a Hideaki Anno trademark. It was really refined in Evangelion and was carried through in his other works thereafter. It's very prominent in his works immediately after End of...

Thanks for that. I'd assume that they'd release the final two compilations just before any video or theatrical release of the film.

If you mean the font, pretty sure it's same one used in the latter episodes of Gunbuster.

I don't keep up with UK releases that much, but does anyone know if the second and third Code Geass compilation films will be released? Did Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection get a UK theatrical release?

Multiple Fatalities Confirmed in Kyoto Animation Fire

From what I've heard, the media are acting appallingly in regards to the story. It has been suggested that in this case the newspaper pressured the family to give them an interview. In one instance the media were scrambling to get shots of relatives of the deceased using step ladders as they...

Retro Mecha Podcast - Episode 14 'Tekkaman - The Space Knight'

Still have the subbed VHS tapes and the illustration collection book I got when I bought the Dangaio pack via Previews (or Diamond Distribution or whatever they were called back then) in the mid 1990's from my local comic book shop when Nippan Books/US Renditions was closing down and offloading...

Rate the last anime you watched out of 10

Adieu Galaxy Express 999 Finally got these films on BD and saw the first film a while ago. Think this is the third time I have bought the films. One of the problems with Rintaro's work is that he goes for the grand spectacle over story or character development. Luckily the script is pretty good...

Rate the last anime you watched out of 10

Baldios (TV Series + Movie) One of the latter super robot series, this show has elements similar to those which came before it and I thought some of the plot elements were similar to Godmars which was broadcast a year or so afterwards. Kaneto Shiozawa plays the lead, Marin Reigan. His voice is...

Rate the last anime you watched out of 10

Shin Tetsujin 28 1980 - 1981 remake of the 1960's TV series. Modernised and in line with other giant robot anime of the time, a lot of the core elements seem really dated and out of place, especially the remote control aspect of Tetsujin and Chief Ootsuka's character design. Most of the episodes...

Bought the untitled ・・・・・・・・・ (pronounced “Dots”) album a while back. They're an anonymous shoegaze alt-idol group. I don't usually like idol stuff, but the music is pretty good (the LP includes tracks written by indie pop Tokyo group For Tracy Hyde amongst others).

    Japan and shopping

I have always used cash mainly because it's easier for all involved. However in the last five years or more, I've noticed a lot more shops take credit cards. Don't quote me, but most convenience stores accept credit cards as well. I know Lawson does. The only place they might not taken them is...

    Japan and shopping

Though people have been saying don't go on the weekends, Sunday is the day you should go to nearby Yoyogi Park. In the very late morning and into the afternoon there's a lot of (sometimes weird and unusual) buskers and the famous rocakabilly dancers right outside the entrance. Last time I went...

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms Cinema Screening Review

Don't really understand why the reviewer didn't get why the Mezarte kingdom wanted the power of the Iroph. It's patently clear they wanted to their royalty to breed with them so they had heirs to the throne which were pretty much immortal. Also it was clearly explained that the cloth they weaved...

UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Surprised no one has made mention of this, but they've pulled a surprise on us and listed Vampire Hunter D (aka Bloodlust, 2000) for pre-order. I'm going to assume the BD will be a dupe of the Discotek version. I know Justin Sevakis did a fantastic job on the authoring of the Discotek BD...

what kind of anime do you like?

The origins of labels (or pigeonholing) comes from what manga anthologies they're published in. Natsuyuki Rendezvous for example was published in a josei anthology called Feel Young. I really don't think Japanese fandom really pays much attention to these labels as such. For example Shonen Jump...

what kind of anime do you like?

That's interesting, didn't know that. Usually for the initial broadcast some of the ecchi stuff it's censored a bit, lost of well placed steam in onsen scenes and the like. I liked Honey and Clover a lot. Sort of reminded me a lot of Paradise Kiss. The mangaka for Honey and Clover also did...

what kind of anime do you like?

I was talking more about Japan's rental video market rather than the UK. Cannibal Holocaust made over a billion yen in cinema and home releases for example. You had a lot of weird films that were banned or running into censorship problems in their home country and getting released with relative...

what kind of anime do you like?

Sorry, I assumed this was a fairly well known term. Never can figure out what terminology I should be using. Generally I don't have a problem with it, just that I got enough of that stuff in the 1990's, mostly OVA stuff. The problem is that the OVA market virtually died out and stuff like that...
