The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

I think it's generally much harder and more expensive to get a multi-region blu-ray player - I certainly don't have one, just as ps3, so UK releases of Gundam on Blu would be very welcome indeed!

Anime Limited licenses GUNDAM RECONGUISTA IN G

The free version was up when I went to bed, and gone when i got up this morning planning to watch it on the iPad mini in bed before work. Ho hum. It wouldn't be the British anime scene without a little chaos and confusion in every release.

    General News/Current Affairs Thread

On t'other hand, you can just hop on the tube and visit the V&A, the Tate, the British Museum or the National Gallery, and you don't have to pay for a hotel or anything! You're not a rich banker but you still get to enjoy all that. We don't. Another aspect of this is that, if London is too...

    General News/Current Affairs Thread

Of course the average English voter thinks there are too many immigrants and we should withdraw from the EU, and secretly reads the Daily Fail and wants to vote UKIP. So giving them more power means we're all doomed, Scots and all. And here's one of my favourite bits from the West Wing: JOSH...

    General News/Current Affairs Thread

I think the Scots have a very valid point about the domination of Britain culturally and politically by London, but it's as true for a kid in Cornwall, Yorkshire or Cumbria as it is for someone living in Dumfries. At least they have Edinburgh/Glasgow! Why is there a British Museum in London and...

Really annoyed the yanks have managed to trump the Anime Ltd release of bebop.... For no rational reason.

The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

From a business perspective it must be really annoying when you've got a release a fair way into production and then the Japanese announce something better and which will prompt your customers to demand the better version and ignore the one you haven't even released yet. The downgrade to a...

Jerome of Manga UK sounds off about licensing restrictions

Re: Jerome of Manga UK sounds off about licensing restrictio I think Japanese companies are worried about a cheap blu ray available on amazon USA rather than a Hong Kong sub only release; Funi won't release a flagship title sub-only - can you imagine the negative feedback and reviews on, again...

The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

Most people (and I don't necessarily mean us) might watch the extras in any special edition once, or not at all (looks at backlog...) so I can easily see why, with a hard-accountant-head on, this decision was made. It's not ideal, but the market is small, and profits need to be made. I hope that...

MVM licenses Patlabor OVA BD/DVD and Linebarrels of Iron DVD

Re: MVM licenses Patlabor OVA BD/DVD and Linebarrels of Iron Actually the Patlabor timelines are a bit more complicated than that: Early Days is the 7 part first OAV Then came the 47 (or 49?) part TV series which was a retelling, with slight difference, of the formation of the Unit, so is...

The News Thread (for news that does not need a thread)

IIRC correctly it's not that Escaflowne was cut, it was that there was a slightly longer special-edition style release of some of the episodes in Japan. We got the original Japanese TV broadcast version, but Japan got a slightly longer "home video" version. We don't know what has been licensed...

What, in your personal opinion, makes a premium release special?

Re: Anime Limited updates and ideas - DRR / Gurren edition All I can say is that if a staggered release of premium to non premium can make MORE money for AA than a simultaneous release then I suggest they do it because I want them to grow and keep releasing quality products in a range of...

What, in your personal opinion, makes a premium release special?

Re: Anime Limited updates and ideas - DRR / Gurren edition Of course. But you pay more for it (special offer amazon prices excepted) than if you waited until the paperback came out, when the price will drop. But I'm not quibbling about the content, I'm quibbling about your argument for...

What, in your personal opinion, makes a premium release special?

Re: Anime Limited updates and ideas - DRR / Gurren edition Maybe I didn't make that clear - hardback/paperback are Marketing strategies - just as ltd edition/regular release are marketing strategies. This means ways to make the money invested back and then turn a profit. In the bad old days of...

What, in your personal opinion, makes a premium release special?

Re: Anime Limited updates and ideas - DRR / Gurren edition The manufacturing cost of a hardback is only slightly more than a paperback - it's a marketing strategy, an exclusivity window - pay more; get it early. The splitting of GRRM novels was originally down to manufacturing costs and the...
