I'd agree with this. My first exposure to Patlabor was this film as that and the sequel on VHS were all we got over here from Manga. Outside of there obviously being some kind of backstory for Kanuka, I never felt I was missing much for not having seen the OVAs.
As much as I love the second...
I think they're going for the delay record currently held by the TV series. I remember when that was definitely coming out before Christmas... then didn't 😬
Not that I'm too worried when I haven't watched the other film yet. And I pre-ordered from UP so I'll pay whenever they get it.
There's something sinister about the name "Embracer". Sounds like a monster from a horror film. Reassuring.
This is probably not going to be a good thing. I hope it doesn't mean that AL pass over titles because they're not marketable enough for their corporate overlords, though tbh independent...
What is it about Spyce that you feel is better than PP? I've had the CE in my sights at various points but haven't yet pulled the trigger.
I liked the first few eps of PP but my interest faded when loli Goemon was intro'd. There's a truly dreadful episode in the second half centring around her...

Early is underselling it a bit. Game's not due out till Friday. Been eager to play Zero since finishing Trails in the Sky years ago, so I am deeply envious.
While I'm here, few things picked up cheap recently. Got these for around £17 each in different CR sales. No idea if either any good...
I have finally ordered the US version of 0080. Sorry to spoil the surprise, everyone, but it's that 😂
Like many others, I assume, I got those LEs for a fraction of their original price. Best LEs ever, those gold and silver breezeblocks. If AL did get the Manga UK dub though I'd have no choice...
I've put off buying the US version of the 0080 BD since it came out in 2019, my reasoning being that, surely, this year will be the year that AL release it. I just know that as soon as I crack, heeeere comes the announcement.
Don't even care about the rest of it, all I want is that lil'...
Was that the Anime Movie Guide by any chance, Prof? I think I remember reading the same about Nostradamus and being similarly disappointed. The following year's Dead or Alive - another theatrical movie - is a much better film. Blu-ray coming from Discotek in October 🎉
It's not great. The writing is bizarrely uninspired considering series vet Tomoko Konparu is co-credited with screenplay, and it doesn't look or feel anything like the rest of the series. A curiously hollow experience.
But it does have decent technical merits: Shimbo, Koike, and Umetsu are key...
UP cancelled my copy as well. Er, I mean, the copy I ordered for a friend. Yeah.
They didn't sound happy about the whole sordid business ("SOLD OUT") 😂
If we were talking about video quality, and this was the Blu-ray.com forum (and while I'm grateful for much of the information their users provide, I am glad that it is not), the English release of YKK would - perhaps not entirely without justification - be called garbage. There really is a lot...
Given the "deluxe edition" designation, I was hoping for better paper quality than I'd usually expect from Seven Seas. I'd agree that US manga is generally disappointing in terms of paper quality, though, some exceptions (Viz Signature stuff for example) aside.
I'm not surprised to hear that...
Only watched the first couple of episodes but they had numerous instances of subtitles split into three or even four lines for no apparent reason. Sometimes they overlap signs. Never seen anything like it and can't imagine it was intended that way.
More disappointing than a deal-breaker for me...
