    [Overseas] Anime News & Announcements

Coming out in Japan in March 2022, a 4K UHD set containing works by Kihachirō Kawamoto and Tadanari Okamoto. The films will apparently have English subtitles.

I would say that The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, and When Harry Met Sally are all fine films.

I'd double dip too for that very reason, but I do think/hope that it's only a matter of time before there are new masters available. The existing transfers must be about 15 years old now and I would imagine that it has a big enough profile in Japan for a 4K restoration....maybe?

What was the question / answer? It's such a breathtaking work, I'd love it to get a release here. I know that Arrow have tried in the past, but they don't have many/any anime connections so I wonder if someone like AL could make a breakthrough.

It feels criminal that the Patlabor films are absent from the UK market. The first two are masterpieces. I'd love to see AL release more Oshii; I'd even be keen for his latest series, Vlad Love, though it seemed to generate as much buzz as an anaesthetised bee.

Overseas Upcoming Non-UK Anime BD/DVD Artwork

The French Conan set looks alright but I'm hoping that AL get to use the gorgeous art of the Japanese set

Arrow's release of Sailor Suit and Machine Gun is out now. I first discovered the cinema of Shinji Sōmai nearly a decade ago, when a retrospective was staged at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2012. Unfortunately, I only managed to see one of the films screened - Typhoon Club - but...

Pretty stunned at Belladonna on 4K - it's not a title that I would have assumed flew off the shelves but I am here for it. Maybe we can get some more vintage films soon? Those 4K Toei Doga restorations look mighty fine, especially The Little Prince and the Eight Headed Dragon. Great to see...

I think the cinema might well give you a refund if you ask, but I'm not sure that particular Act would cover it. Also, you'd probably have a much stronger case if you left during the screening itself rather than asking for it afterwards.

It has been disappointing that there's been so few subtitled screenings (and that there hasn't been one near me, but that's the nature of the game). Though, as the definition of "goods" in the act is "anything physical which you can move" I'll be surprised it it actually applies in this...

    Anime at the cinema

Oh goodness yes. But, unless I'm reading it incorrectly, it looks like Angel's Egg is part of the BFI's Japan 2021 touring season and might be showing in places other than Leeds as well - with any luck!

I'm glad I didn't wait for it - they've ditched the old bonus features and for what? The box art also looks horrendous in every one of its configurations.

I went into Hanagatami with fairly low expectations and came out thinking it was a masterpiece, so I am very very excited for this set

Collector's undoubtedly now makes up a bigger percentage of the overall market, but in terms of pure numbers I wouldn't have thought it would sell more copies today than it would have (when it was put to me that it was a financially risky proposition) 5 years ago. But, whatever the logic, I...

I think Future Boy Conan is a fantastic work in its own right but it is also fascinating as pretty much the Miyazaki urtext. One might say prototype, but Future Boy Conan has a lot more to offer than being a mere blueprint for what was to come. A great deal of the themes and images that would...

I believe that Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket was a 4K scan, but I'm not sure if it was actually restored in 4K or finished off in HD/2K.

I felt a little woozy when I saw that announcement. Wow. Wow wow wow. Am I dreaming? I don't really know what to say, other than thanks to @anime_andrew and everybody else at Anime Limited for this. I remember first asking AL about this (on the podcast I think it was) back in 2015 and it seemed...
