UK Anime Distributor MVM Entertainment Discussion Thread

From the New World isn't on Crunchyroll anymore and BDs on both sides of the Atlantic are OOP, so I think Sentai/Crunchyroll (not sure what the hierarchy in this case is) has probably lost the master license. In that case getting it again would be difficult for MVM, even if they had changed...

Defective or Disappointing UK Anime Discs

Funimation's typesetting (especially when there's multiple overlapping dialogue and on-screen text) isn't amazing, but it isn't such a big problem in AoT since there's comparatively little on-screen text - perks of being a fantasy anime. And any typesetting is better than Manga's Arial subs for...

Okay, this is actually pretty funny. Missed opportunity to do something truly ridiculous with the collector's edition though - then again, I guess making a collector's edition for Ex-Arm is ridiculous in itself 🙃

What a terrible day to be reminded that Sing Yesterday For Me exists. I feel bad for whoever has to QC the discs - subjecting anyone to that series should be considered torture under international law.

Many of AL's recent licenses have been confusing to me. I get that as a "boutique label" they don't want to (and shouldn't!) stick to only the popular stuff, but if you're going to take risks, why not take them on "hidden gems" or titles that have some kind of historical value? At least Vlad...

Nine pounds per minute?! In Finland it's about 3 euros (2 pounds) per minute (and possibly less from a private classifier since it's not monopolized) and we barely even have a physical media industry. Really says something about the UK market that it can cost thousands of pounds just to get an...

If it was automatic there would need to be a way to opt out of it. For example, I don't watch anime dubbed and can live with a small label misprint, so I don't need a replacement in this case. Having to pay customs fees for something I don't need and didn't ask for doesn't exactly sound exciting...

UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

Left a note when ordering where I wished for combined shipping, but I just got a shipping notification and I doubt they have stock of MiA S2 yet. Doesn't look like I'll be able to save on those customs fees after all. A bit disappointing.

UK Anime Blu-ray & DVD Bargains

If AOL's shipping charge was per order instead of per item, this would be perfect for me since I could order Land of the Lustrous and Made in Abyss S2 at the same time. Alas... Is it possible to request AOL to ship an in-stock item and a pre-order together (when the latter releases)? That way...

I was always surprised they were able to offer free shipping for all orders within the UK to begin with, since there's no way it cost them nothing. £3.50 per order is still almost nothing compared to their international shipping cost, and in my experience it's a fairly standard rate for domestic...

Huh. The back cover says Danish, Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian subs, even though I don't think those were ever officially listed on AtA's store page. Can you check the discs to see if they're actually included? Thanks.

I was wondering why I hadn't received any dispatch notification for Eighty-Six and turns out it's been silently delayed by a month to October 28. (Edit: Oh, they did mention it in the schedule update, I just missed it since my attention was drawn to the newly announced releases.) On the plus...

Pleased to see Eupho on the schedule and very surprised about Kaguya-sama. I really hope they will release seasons 1-3 as well because the AoA sets are expensive and the S1 one doesn't even have the dub (Kaguya-sama being pretty much the only anime where I care about the dub), and it would be...

Wasn't the SE released after the BBFC logo update? Well, if Crunchyroll licensing it means that seasons 2 and 3 get Blu-ray releases on this side of the ocean, I don't mind. On the other hand, the worst case scenario would be Crunchyroll picking up the license for S1 and then not doing...

I'm sure Sentai have their own worries over reverse importation (if so, why not just pull the same card used on them from Japan and require MVM & co. to geolock discs to block US players?), but it sure would be nice to be able to buy a reasonably priced release of Oshi no Ko now and not in 2026.

At least Ex-Arm has enough name recognition that some people will buy it because it's terrible. Gibiate, on the other hand, will probably sell so badly that it'll be less than half of its EB price in every sale from next year until the license expires.

Also an EU store. German and French BD/DVDs ship to the entire EU, so I might use it going forward if there's any multi-language releases from Crunchyroll that interest me.

That's an amazing deal for a great show. Also reminds me, have MVM said anything about getting the movie? It's already been a while since Sentai's US release.

Eighty-Six was an instant order for me. It's been a long time coming but better late than never.

Nothing of particularly strong interest to me either. Wallet safe! Is it just me or is the BOGOF selection smaller than in previous sales?
