The Gaming News Thread (for news that doesn't need a thread)

This week's release from Hamster's Arcade Archives series is Namco's Cyber Commando, which has never had any release outside of arcades before.

This would be to combat abuse of the refund system:
Does PlayStation have a refund system to abuse? I think the PSN purchase screen has a box you have to tick agreeing that you lose the right to a refund as soon as you start downloading the game.

I don't know specifics. I know officially you can't refund something once it has been downloaded, but I've also read reports online from people saying something like their kid bought a game they weren't authorized to do, they called PS support and got a "we'll refund this for you this one time" type thing.

Beyond that, there's some claims about some kind of loophole with buying a game on a jailbroken system and somehow abusing the system that way. As I don't have any interest in that sort of thing, I have no idea if any of that is accurate.

Like a lot of anti-piracy measures, there's also the possibility of someone in charge who is clueless doing something stupid that has no effect except bad press too.

Some kind of statement from Sony could really do a lot to alleviate the current situation. Even if it is the DRM that has been suspected, that being a known thing instead of the out-of-control speculation and outrage going on online would be an improvement.

Edit: Complete speculation on my part, but perhaps this is something they're doing for the future for PS6 or more specifically the rumored handheld, which will no doubt be a digital only device. Doesn't seem likely, but maybe they were considering some type of short term refund policy for that.

Sony finally gave an official response about the DRM situation. Looks like it is just a one-off check in the first month after purchase rather than needing to reactivate the licence online every month.

Good to see Alien Isolation 2 reappear

The first is a fantastic horror game and despite my own fears of playing that type of game (Horror with minimal tools to defend yourself with) I did finish it because it was so great, so I'm curious how this one will replicate how incredibly tense the first is with this setting.

Because of it being from Fumito Ueda, gen ATLAS caught my attention:

Otherwise, FFVII was enough for me to be satisfied. Also interested in the new collaboratons for Sonic Racing Crossworlds and curious about the TMNT game. I'm not much into horror and definitely not into gore so a lot of the rest were ruled out for me.

That was easily one of the best Summer Games Fest streams. A wide variety of genres on display, and some massive reveals.

RE Engine has such a distinctive look that I knew the first trailer was Resident Evil instantly, but I assumed it was the Requiem DLC. It was a huge surprise when it turned out to be the long-requested Code Veronica remake.

It's great to see confirmation of a Stellar Blade sequel. I'm not sure what it says about me that I knew that's what it was the moment there was a glimpse of the protagonist's thigh under her poncho.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds getting crossovers with Godzilla and Evangelion was a nice surprise.

And FFVII Revelation was an amazing way to finish the show, especially with it being a 15 minute feature instead of just a title reveal.

The only disappointment was the technical problem with the stream where the audio went out of sync for half an hour.

I felt I knew as soon as I saw that butt so we are on the same wavelength apparently. 😆

Yeah that was a fun surprise.

Nothing was really shown to give a clue what the game will be, but Platinum's TMNT game might be interesting too.

There is a crossover comic with Godzilla running at the moment and seeing as Sonic also has a crossover comic with DC Comics currently I wouldn't be surprised if we see the likes of Batman and Superman come to the game in the future.

For better or worse, Platinum's action games haven't deviated from the Bayonetta formula in the last 16 years. Expect two-button weak/strong attack combos and a perfect dodge that triggers bullet time. As for the story, it's apparently based on a grimdark graphic novel where there is only one surviving ninja turtle, so it will be one player character switching between combat styles for the four different weapons.

The crossovers in Godzilla comics have been getting insane recently. There was Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla a couple of months ago, and there's a War of the Worlds crossover in August.

That explains the main image of the single turtle. I wasn't aware of the source material though given the style of the teaser that makes sense.

Hadn't thought about that in terms of gameplay; never liked Bayonetta (and I totally suck at that type of game) so I'll keep my expectations low.

I'm a bit surprised Platinum are doing another TMNT game considering their last one (Mutants in Manhattan) was universally seen as...not very good at all. I won't hold my breath on this one being amazing, but I'll give it a go anyway!

Lots of those other games are very exciting to me, especially Revelation!
