Updated: Haruhi release ends, Lucky Star on the horizon?

Recent reports point towards the possibility that Bandai Entertainment have licensed the latest anime phenomenon <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Star_%28manga%29">"Lucky Star",</a> after the show had been advertised as an "Available title" on Kadokawa Pictures USA's <a href="http://www.kadokawapicturesusa.com/2007/08/lucky_star_1.php">website</a>.

The news comes as a recently posted <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d923UeSxgtU">youtube video</a> showing a clip from <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7222">"Lucky Star"</a> finishes with a piece of text saying "Lucky Star - Coming soon from Kadokawa Pictures USA and Bandai Entertainment Inc".

The video has been confirmed by many people who own the fourth and final installment of the popular series <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6430">"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya"</a> that has just finished its DVD release in America - all that is left is an official announcement from Bandai Entertainment Inc and Kadokawa Pictures USA for this to be a fully fledged new license.

<strong>Update:</strong>  Marking the official release of the fourth and final installment of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Melancholy_of_Haruhi_Suzumiya_(anime)">"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya"</a> Region 1 DVD release, <a href="http://www.bandai-ent.com">Bandai Entertainment</a> have officially <a href="http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=1186">announced</a> their production/distribution rights for the fan-favourite - <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Star_%28manga%29">"Lucky Star",</a> marking the first time a US company have gained two individual production/distribution rights for a <a href="http://www.kadokawapicturesusa.com">Kadokawa Pictures USA</a> licensed anime (the first one being <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=6430">"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya"</a>).
 
Splendid, Can't wait to own it.

I've heard several things about it, Its confirmed now. :D It was inevitable. Lets hope for a great release like Haruhi then.

I think that's expected of Bandai nowerdays, with their higher than the norm price points.

I'm sure they won't let the fans down. I personally am really looking forward to seeing how the release will take shape. Another box like the Haruhi one please, Bandai!

Huh, another title in the long line of titles that Kodawa USA prevents me from seeing without tearing myself a new ass?

Whoopy, still waiting for FMP 2nd Raid over here.

Nobody in this country has talked to or managed to licence from them for UK distribution (I don't know which but I would hazard a guess at the latter). None of the distributors has given any indication of what issues there are and/or what they are negotiating from them at the moment.

Yes, I'm also rather surprised they've waited so long to get it released here. Luckily, FMP has a more loyal fanbase than Haruhi or Lucky Star so they know they can put them on the back burner and make some quick cash from stuff like Haruhi and Lucky Star.
 
In response to the update, the release of Haruhi vol 4 featured a Lucky Star promo (presumably the one seen on YouTube) featuring the Lucky Star characters parodying the Haruhi characters and performing the dance to Hare Hare Yukai. Quite funny and a nice bit of promotion on Kadokawa's part.

Just to let you know; This happens in one of the Lucky Star episodes anyway, So its nothing all to special. =/

I am sure it does happen but it is a good job at targeted cross promotion, using the final Haruhi DVD to launch an upcoming title in such a way. Anime companies are usually quite cagey about promoting shows before they have started releasing them owing to the often quick turnaround between licence announcement and release.
