New R1 anime licenses announced this past weekend

Over the weekend a bunch of new anime licenses were announced at a US anime convention. ADV have acquired one of the latest "girls with guns" sci-fi series in Coyote Ragtime Show, along with the lesser known UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie seasons 3 & 4 and Moeyo Ken TV. FUNimation are also continuing their pursuit of the shoujo market in picking up Peach Girl.

Given the somewhat limited appeal of the above anime, we speculate ADV UK will most likely pick up Coyote Ragtime Show but the rest are very much niche titles that could possibly struggle in the UK industry.

Media Blasters is also making moves in the shoujo market with their licence of Gakuen Heaven according to Anime on DVD.

That's hardly surprising though, as the popularity of shounen-ai anime has increased greatly over the past little while and both decent shows of last year (Sukisyo and Loveless) were licensed just as quickly ^__^
