Rockstar's Table Tennis

I got this game along with a few others recently, I was surprised at just how enjoyable it is. Now many people are being stupid and complaining about Rockstar making a Table Tennis game, but unlike SquareEnix they do not screw up when they attempt to make a game for a different genre *Cough* DirgeofCerberus*Cough*.

Rockstar has shown me that if they wanted they could make a damn good sports game. The game is so simple to get into, but tough to master if you want to become really good. The buttons are easy to get the hang of, and even if you sign onto LIVE after playing the training mode (like I did) you can still beat other people in matches, but the experts really do stand out from the beginners at times. So, does anyone have this game or plan to buy it? Let's discuss this and what you think of Rockstar's decision to develop this game. Would you have rather seen a new GTA game?

Woah, a reply. I thought this topic was going to just die...

I'm playing it right now, and it's so surprising how easy it is to get into. I invited some friends over today, and they havn't even played a 360 let alone played Table Tennis. But as soon as they picked up the controller and were told the buttons, they were set to go! We had a good few hours of fun, then we decided to take the experience online.

I think the only thing Rockstar missed in this game is a four-player doubles mode. Would be great getting a Guest online for Xbox Live and playing against other people in doubles matches, no?

I don't have any problem with companies (particularly entertainment companies) branching out and trying new things. That goes with the one proviso that they have at least one clue about what they're doing.

The table tennis game from Rockstar is a good example, they were in danger of becoming a one-trick pony and they wouldn't look half so 'cool' then. Have only seen one review for it so far, but that was favourable.

What I hope nobody will do is 'a Squaresoft' and just blunder around and invest money in a total pile of pants (like Final Fantasy: Spirits Within for instance). Ah well, they learned, Enix ate them :D Serves them right *snickers*.

I don't know if this is completely relevant but if you don't already use this website, I totally recommend it to save yourself some time when looking at reviews for a game. It gathers all the major reviews from Gamespot and other websites/magazines and gives the game an average score ratio based on the results gathered by all the media outlets they take their scores from. Here's the Table Tennis page as an example:

If you already know about this website, good stuff. If you've just found it, it's worth bookmarking.
