The original manga series of K-ON! Was serialised in Manga Time Kirara between May 2007 and October 2010. Then, in a surprise announcement, Kakifly confirmed that he would relaunch the manga six months later in April 2011 but with two separate storylines in two Houbunsha published magazines, Manga Time Kirara and Manga Time Kirara Carat:

The Manga Time Kirara version followed Yui, Mio, Ritsu, and Mugi as they attended college while the Manga Time Kirara Carat version continued their adventures in high school and featured the characters Azusa, Ui, and Jun.

The Manga Time Kirara Carat version will still continued to be seriliased.

The anime has been licensed by Manga Entertainment in the UK and both the anime and manga have proven to be a fan favourites of the AUKN staff and forumites.
